Kripalu Yoga Classes

Kripalu (Krih-PAH-loo) yoga is a gentle style of yoga that teaches participants to work safely within their own limitations. Breathing techniques or pranayamas will allow the participant to develop a greater sense of awareness that will enable them to practice moving through poses or asanas mindfully. Strength, flexibility, and balance as well as a sense of inner calm can be achieved through Kripalu's style of 'moving meditation'.

Beginners

Beginners are introduced to conscious breathing techniques (pranayama) and proper alignment of the body in yoga postures (asanas) and how to safely coordinate both body movement and breath together. An attitude of non-judgement and self-acceptance is cultivated. It is helpful to maintain an open mind. A growing awareness of the inter-connection of body, mind and spirit is developed.

Intermediates

Intermediates or more experienced students develop a deeper sense of mindfulness and compassion. They learn to direct their attention inward to observe sensations of the breath, body movements, thoughts and emotions while holding asanas for longer periods of time. More challenging postures are introduced. Yogic philosophy is a growing focus throughout classes.

Posture Flows

'Meditation in motion' is the method of spontaneous posture flows for more experienced students looking to develop a higher level of consciousness. Students will learn to use their sense of intuition or inner wisdom as they integrate sensations of movement, breath, thoughts and emotions in such a way that will create a sense of deep inner peace, restoring the balance of energy of body, mind and spirit.

Gentle Yoga

This is a class specifically designed for people who are more limited in mobility to safely experience yoga in order to improve their range of motion and balance as well as their quality of life. Students will learn breathing techniques/pranayama, chair yoga, gentle hatha yoga, visualization and meditation. They will also learn how to move from sitting to standing and from floor to standing positions. Precautions and modifications will be taught as well as massage benefits.

Yoga For Men : 4 Reasons why men should do yoga.

1. It’s way more” manly” than you think. Thousands of years ago it was created by men for only men.

2. It will make you better at whatever you do. Physically it will create a balance in your life. If you are strong, it will help your flexibility. If you are flexible, it will help you to build strength. Mentally it will give you a way to handle pressure that comes from competition. It can be your secret weapon in the board room or on the tennis court! It will improve your game and you will feel better doing it.

3. You don’t have to wear Spandex or pink. Really! We won’t discuss romantic comedies in class either.

4. Get to know yourself better. Yoga will give you the chance to let go of the pressure to be all tough and strong. Even though there are lots of opportunities to use that brute strength in yoga sometimes it is nice to occasionally check that tough –guy exterior at the door. Yoga class is the perfect place to explore letting your guard down, and just be yourself!
